Envy and contentment
When I was younger, I used to envy the relatives on my mother’s side of the family. They have so much when we had so little. As a kid, I was envious of the toys they had. Game ‘n watch, family computer, tons of books… One time, I borrowed a game ‘n watch and opened the battery area. One of the small batteries popped out and got lost. I was spanked by my mom because of it. Later that day, my cousin found the battery under a sofa chair.
Ever since, I vowed not to borrow anything from them anymore. And promised myself that my siblings will never have to stoop to being envious of other kids’ toys again. I taught them contentment.
