How Much is your Baon?

Saturday, May 21st, 2011

Do you still remember how much your parents would give you for baon (school money)? I remember my mom would give me 10pesos because I love eating siopao then. I would buy from the school canteen and drink whatever my mom prepared for me. In high school, I would be given 30pesos, almost the same when I was in college. Prices of food and drinks were not yet high then, so that amount was enough for a meal.

How about you did your parents gave you lunch money or were you given packed lunch instead?

Cookies and me

cookies

I don’t like cookies that much. Whenever I crave for some, it’s just a few pieces together with coffee and that’s it. Then it will take a long time for me to crave for some again. I just don’t like eating something so dry. I consider something dry when you bite into it and crumbs will fall right away.

And no, I don’t dip my cookies in milk. I just didn’t grow up with that kind of thing at home.

Brownouts were fun!

Thursday, October 28th, 2010

There was a period in the past when the source of electricity in our country was not enough. Brownouts lasted for hours and hours on end. So what to do during those times?

We would hang out at my grandma’s veranda. We would all be there: my mom, my siblings and I, my cousins and some aunts. It was all fun instead of getting annoyed over the lack of electricity. I actually looked forward to those afternoons and early evenings spent at my grandma’s.

These days, of course, since my work is home-based, lack of electricity is a no-no for me. I cannot tolerate even an hour of lack of electricity because that could mean less income for me.

My baby brother

Baby hands

I took care of my brother from the moment he was born until now that he’s already 18 years old. I remember all those sleepless nights just to make sure he’s okay… my mom suffered from post natal depression that time and being the eldest, I had no choice but to take over the care of my baby brother. My dad was working abroad that time so I was really left to do it.

I had no regrets. It was a period in my life that I learned so much and it could be the closest thing I can get to being a mother. If I will be given a choice now to do it all over again, I will do so.

Name names!

Thursday, August 12th, 2010

Memories… memories… Deirdre Mikaela. Raphaela Dominique Louise. Georgia Sophia. Beatrice. Daniella Victoria. Deirdre Marie. Puro babae pala gusto ko maging anak! Hehehe! Kung lalaki: Lestan Antonio.

I used to write down names that I’d like to name my babies or my fictitious characters. Deirdre topped my list. I also remember I loved the name Louise and Sophia before. One of my really good friends Tim named her firstborn Sophia Louise. She’s my goddaughter so that puts those two names out of my list now. I still love the names though.

These days, the name I like the most is Beatrix. If it’s a girl, Emma Beatrix. If it’s a boy, Emmett. Yes, from the Twilight Saga. I really like that name!

The trail

trail

When I was a kid, there was this trail that my cousins and I always follow whenever we’re in the province. It leads to a river and back then, it was already a big mystery to us why the trail was not widely used by the residents of the place. Every nook and cranny of the province was a mystery for us to unravel. It brought us magic and adventure and lots of horror stories to tell!

I love that place. When I went back there a couple of years ago, the trail was still there but I was told the river was no longer there. It was developed into a residential area and that the trail leads to nowhere anymore.
